WT190 - I Think I am Cracking Up and I Love It!!

I made this card for WT190, where we were to use a means of cracking...such as the cracked glass technique. I decided to break out some of the Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint that I got a while back and totally forgot about. Now that I have used it I will NOT be forgetting about it again! Boy is it fun and easy to use!!

It is hard to really tell from the picture, but I used the tea dyed distress crackle paint on the bottom portion of the card. The top portion was run through the big shot with the distressed lines embossing folder (you really can not see that very well in the picture, but trust me, it is there).

The image and sentiment are stamped in chocolate chip on confetti cream paper, and all of the edges are distressed. To finish off the card, I added some twill tape, fringed the edges, and stuck it on with some antique brass brads.

SC200 - Blue Pockets

I made this card for SC200! Wow! 200 Sketches posted on SCS!! What a milestone, and what a fun sketch Roxie picked out for us this week!!

When I saw the sketch, the first set that popped into my mind was pocket silhouettes. I have also wanted to use this particular DSP from Urban Garden since I got it, and finally got the chance to use it for today's card.

I think this card is pretty self explanitory...I used the small oval and the word window punches for the sentiment, and I just love the double stitched Baja breeze ribbon which is tied in a simple knot. For the image panels I trimmed them to 1 3/8" by 1 3/8" square so they would all fit on a standard 5 1/2" by 4 1/4" card.

TLC192 - A new way to use those left over napkins!

I made this card for TLC192 - Paper Napkin Transfer. Here is what you need for this technique: Decorative Napkin, Freezer Paper (the white stuff with a waxy coating on the backside), Iron, A piece of scratch or copy paper, Other card stock and supplies you would like to complete your project.

First start by unfolding your napkin and if it is a multi-ply napkin, carefully pull the layers apart so that you only have the top decorative layer for your project. Then, Cut a piece of freezer paper a little larger than your napkin (about 1/2 to 3/4"). Heat your iron while you first lay your freezer paper, shiny side up, on your ironing board. Next, lay your decorative napkin (pretty side up) onto your freezer paper, then lay your copy paper on top of your napkin. Heat with your iron (set on medium - no steam) for about 15 to 30 seconds, moving your iron over the copy paper, applying gentle pressure until your napkin is adhered to your freezer paper. Now just apply your pretty napkin to your card stock, (just like you would if you were using patterned paper) and complete your project as desired.

What a great way to use some of the pretty napkins you are saving, but you just don't know what to do with them. The napkin I used is on the bottom strip of this card with the pretty gold detailing. It was from my friend's wedding reception we held in our backyard a few years ago...they were just way to pretty to toss, and also way to pretty to use as just a napkin! I thought it would go perfectly with the tree from SU's Snow Swirled set. I just stamped the sentiment and tree with Encore Gold ink. Then I inked the edges of the card base, the tree and the sentiment with some more gold ink (using the direct to paper method). Finally, I added some sheer gold ribbon and antique gold photo turn mounts.

CC189 - Pink Chocolate Kisses in the Morning!

This card was made for CC189. If you can not tell from my card yesterday and today, they are supporting breast cancer awareness week by having pink in each of the challenges this week. Today's color challenge was Pink Pirouette, Chocolate chip and Kiwi Kiss...I very fun combo...anything with pinks and brown is wonderful in my book! :)

Today I colored the Morning Soft image with my copic markers. All of the layers for the image panel are distressed. I then scored the right side of my card base in 3/4" and then another 1/2". I tore a little strip off and accordion folded the folds so that they met. I then added the strip of chocolate chip between the folds, and two brads to keep the fold together.

To finish off the card, I added the sentiment on the side and the double ribbon of chocolate chip and kiwi kiss satin ribbon behind the main image panel.

TLC191 - Bloomin' Pink Twinks

I made this card for TLC191 - where we were to use watercolor pencils and instead of using plain water to blend, we used a pink hue of twinkling H2O.

Well, I don't have twinkling H2O, but I do have a vanilla breeze shimmer mist, which I think gave the same effect, and boy what an effect, the image is so shimmery and fun!!

I decided to use a different fold for today's card and settled on this matchbook fold. I have never done this one before, but it was really easy so I know I will be using it again! Start with at piece of paper 4 1/4" by 11". Then sore at 5" and 10", and fold the 1" flap up to create the match book fold. I did trim the top flap that fits into the 1" fold by about 1/4" in order to add some brads to hold the 1" flap up, and still allow for the card front flap to fit under the smaller flap.

For the background I used the Bella Tole background stamp inked in creamy caramel. Both the main image panel and the sentiment were sponged lightly with creamy caramel to soften then up a bit. I also inked the torn edge to give it more definition.

To finish off the card I added a hodgepodge hardware tab with some light pink crimped ribbon.

Day's 'til Christmas

Boy have I had fun this weekend working on some items for this month's Kitchen Sink contest themed "Getting Ready for the Holidays", were you could make anything that has the theme of the next three holidays coming up, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The first thing I made was this fun count down calender...what better way to get ready for the holidays then to count down the days so you know how long you have!! :)

I cut a piece of chipboard with the dimensions of 5" x 5". I covered it with some holiday treasures DSP, chocolate chip card stock and a strip of Riding Hood Red Taffeta ribbon.

The trees are from their Playful Christmas Set. I stamped the green tree with mellow moss and then old olive, the red tree with pretty in pink and then riding hood red, and the blue tree with soft sky and baja breeze. They are then layered on riding hood red and old olive circles.

For the sentiment and numbers I used the newly released 1/2 pint playful alphabet and 1/2 pint playful alphabet buddy. I used the same ink combinations for the sentiment as I did for the trees.

I then added a silver clip from SU's clip assortment to hold the numbers for the countdown. You can see a few more of them in the picture, to hold numbers not being used I glued an envelope to the back of the calendar. It is finished off with two large eyelets in either top corners with some satin chocolate chip ribbon stung between in order hang it on the wall.

Hopefully this will help me this year with the ever present question in my house all December long..."mommy how many more days 'til Christmas?" :)

Trick or Treat...Smell my Paws??

This card is for Kitchen Sink's monthly contest "Thinking Outside the Box" category. I used the adorable squirrel from the 3 stamp Autumn Squirrel set. I stamped him with creamy caramel, close to cocoa and basic black. I then drew a little mask on him for his "costume". To finish him off I added a pumpkin from their 3 step Turkey Trot set with some twine to look as though he is holding it for his candy. Finally, I used the ticket punch and punched not only the corners of the main image panel, but also the corners of the base panels, and then added some basic black brads in the corners.

The sentiment is from the Ready 4 any holiday set. I stamped it in black on pumpkin pie, then layered with basic black and really rust, and topped it off with some antique brass hodgepodge hardware. I then tied some black grosgrain ribbon on either side with some more twine to give the whole sentiment the look of a wrapped piece of candy.

I then added a couple of leaves and an acorn from the 3 step Autumn Set. The DP I used is the Halloween DSP from SU last year...which I can not for the life of me think of the name at the moment.

This was a VERY fun card to make...my DD loves it so much she is making me give it to her for Halloween! LOL!!

Season for Smooches

I made this card for Kitchen Sinks monthly contest for the category of "Best Use of Sentiment".

I stamped the sentiment first on the confetti cream in riding hood red, then I stamped it in chocolate chip on a piece of Baja breeze, old olive and riding hood red. Next I cut the words "season" "for" and "smooches" out of the each of the colors and adhered them to the sentiment with dimensionals. So you can either read the full sentiment of "'tis the season for holiday smooches" or you can just read the highlighted word of "season for smooches".

The image was stamped in mellow moss, kiwi kiss and old olive. I punched a double hole at the top of the stem with SU's double hole punch, and tied the ribbon in a bow. I then added glue dots to portions of the ribbon to give the ends a flowing look. To finish off the card I added some garnet colored brads and a filigree brad with a garnet gem in the middle.

LSC190 - Blue Eyed Snow Swirl

I made this card for LSC190, where we only able to use one piece of DP, one piece of ribbon, and eyelets. We could also use any stamps and card stock.

I added a row of large eyelets with my crop a dial. Then I wove the white taffeta ribbon from both the top and bottom, which met in the middle and then tied it in a bow.

I had a tough time matching paper and ink to this DP which is from my Old Word stack, and finally decided on Baja Breeze. I then decided to add some brushed sliver in the layers to add a little more bling to the card, cuz lets face it who does not love a little bling! :)

WT188 - Moosing You Plaid

I made this card for WT188 - Mad for Plaid, where we had to use...what else...plaid. I looked in all my DSP and I did not have ANY plaid DSP...I know! *gasp*!! Anyway, so after some brainstorming I remembered I had SU's Flannel Plaid background stamp.

This background is a pretty rugged looking stamp, so I paired it with H&M stamps, nature's style. I just love this little Moosing You image! So very fun! I stamped both the image and the plaid background in basic black. The black panel on the left side is actually crumples and torn. I paper pierced the four holes on the top and bottom and sewed the "X" with some twine. I am not much of a sewer, but this, I can do! LOL!!

SC198 - Urban Upsy Daisy

This card was made for SC198...what a fun and different sketch. I love any type of sketch with a circle in it.

I decided to pull out my Upsy Daisy set, since I have not used it since I first got it, and paired it with the Urban Garden DSP from SU...a perfect combination. This card is pretty self explanatory. I did use my birds and swirls embossing folder for the base of the card, and all the circle layers were cut with my creative memories circle cutter. The card was finished off with some white taffeta ribbon and some light blue ice brads.

I really do love this color combo of the grays with Baja breese...it is just very soothing to me!!

TLC190 - Fun Accordion/Step Fold!!

I made this card for TLC190 where were were to make a card with an accordion/stair step fold. To achieve this fold you first, cut your card stock to the size of 10.5 X 5.0. Next, score your card stock at 1.25" - 2.5" - 4.25", 6" and at 8.25". Then fold with hills and valleys (accordion style) making sure that the smallest (1.25" fold) is folded down. Fun and easy!

I though that this fold would be perfect for one of Kitchen Sink's new sets - 3 Step School Days. For the bottom fold I used the ruler stamp, which was stamped with creamy caramel, close to cocoa and chocolate chip. For the middle fold, I used the stacked book image stamped with the same inks as the ruler, and added some riding hood red taffeta ribbon. For the final fold, I added the apple, which was stamped in pink pirouette, regal rose, ruby red and riding hood red. I then added the sentiment which was originally stamped in craft whisper white, and then embossed with white embossing powder to give it a chalk board look.

Oh boy it has definitely turned into fall here in the desert over night! I woke up this morning, and it was in the 40's here! That is cold for me!! :)

IC149 - Lovin' these Pansies!!

This card was made for IC149. I was inspired by the colors in this picture. When I saw these colors I just knew I had to put some ink to these wonderful pansies that just came out last month at Kitchen Sink Stamps as part of their first anniversary release.

Both the larger and the smaller flowers are 5 step stamps. The colors I used for each are as follows:
Pink: Pink Pirouette, Pretty in Pink, Regal Rose Rose Red, Basic Black
Orange: Blush Blossom, Apricot Appeal, Pumpkin Pie, Tangerine Tango, Basic Black
Leaves: Mellow Moss, Old Olive, Always Artichoke.

The sentiment is layered with the large oval punch, the 1 1/4" circle, and the designer label punch. The background DSP is a piece of Apricot Appeal DSP, and the card is finished off with the square spiral clip and pink ribbon.

These flowers are just soooo fun to play with! I just kept stamping and stamping...I probably would still be there stamping, but finally decided that I was going to run out of room if I wanted to keep the main image the size of a standard card. LOL!! I can't wait to play with these a little more. There are so may pretty pansy colors to play with!

LSC189 - Rock, Paper, Sissors

I made this card for LSC189 - Rock, Paper, Sissors - where we were only alowed to use any type of paper (special bonus points if you used matallic paper), cut only sissors (strait edge or decorative), and for rock we were able to use any type of gem and hardware. Additionally we were allowed to use any stamped images and any coloring tools.

So, I broke out some of the matillic papers I have been harding - Bushed Silver and Garnet...I really wish I would have had some shimmery white paper too, but had to settle for whisper white. I colored the image with my SU markers (Ruby Red, Rose Red, Mellow Moss and Always Artichoke), and the sentiment is stamped with craft white.

For the *rock* portion of my card I added a filigree brad at either end of the sentiment and topped it off with a dark red gem.

This card really does shine...unfortunatly I could not capture that very well in the picture. Oh well, you will just have to take my word for it! LOL!!

SC197 - Season of Thanks

I made this card for SC197 on SCS. I have really been wanting to use this leaf image from the Harvest Home set, and thought today's sketch was perfect for it! I stamped the image twice in order to have it stretch all the way across the main image panel (I used my stamp-a-ma-jig to line up the image the second time I stamped it). Then I colored the leave with my copic markers. The DSP is from SU's Autumn Vine, and I used my divine swirls embossing folder for the chocolate chip large panel. Which I thought matched the swirls on the vine in the image nicely. The card was then finished off with riding hood red taffeta ribbon and antique brass brads.

Yep, another fall card! Have I mentioned how much I love the fall! LOL!! Well I will mention it one more time just in case you were not aware of that fact! :)

CC187 - Chocolate Tangerine Kisses

I made this card for CC187 - Tangerine Tango, Chocolate Chip, and Kiwi Kiss. This is such a fun color combo for fall cards, I just had to pull out one of my all time favorite SU stamp sets...Lovely as a Tree!

The image is colored with copic markers, and all the layer including the image panel are torn and off set. The background DSP is from the DCWV Old World Stack. Then I layered some chocolate chip satin ribbon with some Kiwi Kiss/Very Vanilla satin ribbon. The sentiment is from SU's Give Thanks set, and to finish off the card I added the hodgepodge hardware.

Oh yes...fall is finally in the air! Being a desert rat, I don't see the changes here, but was able to make it to Northern AZ this weekend and saw some of the wonderful leaves changing! So very beautiful!!

TLC189 - MMMM Pizza!!

I made this fun little pizza box for today's TLC189 challenge. You can the specific details on how to create this box here. This box is just so easy to make, and will be perfect for a gift card I plan on giving a friend of mine who is having a baby girl in a few months.

To create the little tag, I used the Punches Three hostess set from SU. I stamped the image on some confetti cream paper and then punched it out with my designer label punch, and layered it on the wide oval punch out of pink pirouette. I than added a small sliver eyelet and attached the tag to the layered ribbon (which consists of wide Pink Pirouette ribbon, So Saffron Twill and some plum ribbon) with some linen thread. To finish off the card, I added a large flower brad over the ribbon knot, and some so saffron brads.

This box is just so easy to make, and will be perfect for a gift card I plan on giving a friend of mine who is having a baby girl in a few months. Hope she likes it!!

Chocolate Pieces

I made this card for a My Favorite Things Challenge, where we were to paper piece one of their wonderful images!! I LOVE paper pieceing...cutting is very soothing to me, and once all cut, it is like putting together a little puzzle. However, I may have go a little over board in the cutting on this card. Everything on this image is cut and pieced: the flowers on the chair, the chair itself, her dress, legs, arms/candy and neck...I think I am going cross eyed! LOL!! I even cut out two of the Hershey kisses that are part of this set too! Wow, I was a cutting fool today!

Anyway, I really did have fun with this card, not only with all the cutting, but also with coordinating the different DSP's which are all from SU's Hawaiian Papaya Paper. I am really loving this paper! Oh and the striped Tangerine ribbon...yummy!!

WT186 - Can I quote you on that?

I made this card for WT186 - We were to use a quote as a focal point. When I saw this posted, I knew exactly what set I was going use...There She Goes has just wonderful quotes/sentiment in her sets!!

I just love this quote...very fun indeed...and this butterfly...don't even get me started - LOVE IT!! I used some of that wonderful saffron twill tape today, and some of the beautiful riding hood red taffeta ribbon so very fun! Can you tell I am a ribbon lover...hardly a card is made where I don't use ribbon! LOL!!

I would have had this card done about 15 minutes sooner, but when I went to go look for the original butterfly that I stamped and cut out I could not find it!! Looked all over for it too! Oh well, I ended up stamping and cutting another one out, and if I find it I can alway use it later!
