KSCC23 - Masking!!!

Happy Kitchen Sink Monday!! Boy oh boy, is it a busy day/week in the Sink!! It is also the first Monday of the month, and Kitchen Sink fans know that means it is time for another crew challenge!! This month hostess is non other then ME!!! I am challenging you to use a little masking on your card. Kitchen Sink stamps really lend themselves to masking, but you do not have to mask the images...try masking a frame, or masking clouds (like I did on one of my cards below)...use your imagination!!!

My first card uses the new Little Lambs set. As you can see, I stamped the smaller lamb, masked it off and then stamped the larger lamb. Both lambs were stamped with the following ink in the following order:

Step 4: Going Grey
Step 3: Going Grey stamped off
Step 3: Going Grey stamped off
Step 1: Going Grey stamped off twice
Step 5: Basic Black

I then masked each of the lambs and stamped the grass, which is from the 3 step Honey Bunny set. I stamped the grass as follows: Step 1: Mellow Moss, Step 2: Old Olive stamped off, Step 3: Old Olive. The image panel was then finished off by masking and sponging the sky/clouds.

For the base, the grass was created with some old olive card stock that was dry embossed with a cuttlebug folder. I then punched a hole in a post-it and sponged the sun, then used the punched out hole to mask the sun as I created more masked clouds. Finally, I added the sentiment inside the sun, and finished with a bit of yellow grosgrain ribbon and yellow gems.



My second card has a bit less masking involved. Here I stamped the purple lilac image first, masked it off and then stamped the pink lilac. The colors recipe I used for each is as follows:

Purple Lilac:
Step 3: Lavender Lace
Step 4: Elegant Eggplant
Step 2: Almost Amethyst
Step 1: Bashful Blue

Pink Lilac:
Stpe 3: Regal Rose
Step 4: Rose Red
Step 2: Pretty in Pink
Step 1: Pretty in Pink

The leaves were then stamped with Mellow moss, Old Olive and then Old Olive again.

The DP on this card is from Basic Grey's Sugar Rush package, and the punch is from Martha Stewart. To finish off the card, wove some pink satin ribbon in the punched portion of the DP, and some tiny pink pearls.

SC214 - Grandfather's Wisdom

I made this card for SC214. Another great sketch, and a great way to show off this new set called Men of Wisdom from Innovative Stamp Creations, which will be available on February 9th!

To create this card, I first stamped the pocket watch and sentiment and the smaller background in Not Quite Navy on some Confetti Cream paper, and sponged the edges. I then layered with some more sponged confetti cream and not quite navy papers. For the card base, I used a Tim Hotlz time works mask and sponged the not quite navy card stock with not quite navy ink. To finish off the card, I added a Tim Holtz gear, spinner and brads.

I have to tell you all that this new stamp sheet from ISC is just amazing and will be perfect for father's day and other masculine cards!!

WT202 - Pattern Pizzazz

Boy that is just a fun word...Pizzazz!! :) Well the challenge today was to jazz up some regular DSP. I chose to sponge and mask over some Parisian Summer DSP with a Tim Holtz flourish mask. I placed the mask over a piece of DSP and then sponged it with some pink pirouette ink, and voila you have just given an already pretty piece of DSP some more pizzazz!


I decided to pair this masked DSP with one of my new Our Daily Bread sets I got last week called Flourished Christian Symbols. I took another piece of the Parisian Summer DSP and embossed the dove with some white embossing powder. I then mimicked the sponged/masked background and sponged a little bit of pink pirouette over the embossed dove to make it stand out more. (I also did the same steps with the sentiment). I then kept with the sponging theme and sponge all of the edges of the card with a little more pink pirouette. I then finished the card off with a little bit of white taffeta ribbon.

Rustic Artsy Swirls Scrapbook Page

Sorry I have not posted in a while, I have been feeling under the weather the last couple of days. :( I am finally feeling better, so there is an end in sight!! I did get to stamp a little bit during this time though...one of my friends is the manager of the dialysis department at a local hospital, and a lady in upper management is retiring. They are having each department put together a scrapbook page for her to remember them by. She called me and asked if I would help. I said...sure what are friends for!

When she got to my house I asked her how big the page was supposed to be and she said 12X12...then I asked for the pictures she had, and she said she did not have any...apparently the lady retiring really does not know her staff, so she just wanted to say "thank you" for all the years of service she provided, on behalf of her staff. Okay, so my challenge was to fill a 12x12 page with no pictures...bring it on...I guess...LOL!!

I asked her if she had any ideas...she said no...so I had her look through some of my stamp sets and some of the cards that I have done lately, and she really loved this card and asked if I could do something like this. She especially like the stamp set and the color combo, so this is what I came up with:



I used the Rustic Artsy Swirls stamp set from Innovative stamp creations. I started with a white glossy 12x12 piece of card stock and embossed the swirls with clear embossing powder for the border. I then brayered the whole page with Baja breeze. Next, I layered a Tim Holtz flourish mask on either side of the page and sponged over that with taken with teal (you can see it in the picture if you look very closely).

For the butterflies, I stamped them with craft black on whisper white paper and then embossed with more clear embossing powder. I then colored them with some copic markers, and cut them out. I printed the "thank you" out from my computer and cut it with my creative memories circle cutter and layered with some scalloped nesties. Both the sentiment and the butterflies are all popped up with dimensionals.

Finally, I added the red satin ribbon across the top. As you can see, I did not stray much from the card since she really like it (and the cold I had...actually still have...was blocking my creative juices. LOL!) I kinda like the way it turned out...I am not much of a scrap booker at this stage in my life. Hopefully I will have more time in for it in the near future!

CC196 - Enjoy!!!

This card is for CC196 - Baja Breeze, Taken With Teal, Riding Rood Red (or in my case real red) and Whisper White...a very fun color combo!!

Today's card was made with Innovative Stamp Creation's Rustic Artsy Swirls. I began with a piece of whisper white paper, I embossed the swirls with clear embossing power. I then brayered baja breeze over that. Next, I took the Tim Holtz flourish mask placed it on portions of the card and sponged the card with taken with teal.

For the butterfly image, I stamped the butterfly in basic black on some extra whisper white that was brayered with baja breeze. I then colored some portions with a teal copic marker, and popped it up on a dimensional.

To finish off the card, I added some red grosgrain ribbon. Then, punched the sentiment with my small and large oval punches...added the silver hardware.

FS86 Way to go Terrore3!!

I made this card for this week's FS86 on SCS, which featured Terrore3! What a fun gallery she has! I decided to CASE this card. I unfortunately needed a sympathy card for one of my DH's coworkers whose mother pass away last week.

I did change a few things on my card: I used different colors, masked and oval instead of a rectangle, added brads in the bottom corner, added more layers, and used different images.

I just love masking, and the effect you get with it! In this case I cut an oval frame with my creative memories oval cutter. I then layered it over my confetti cream paper and sponged both kiwi kiss and close to cocoa. I then stamped this wonderful bird image and sentiment from There She Goes Here for you set in close to cocoa. To finish off the card I used some yummy kiwi kiss ribbon and antique brass brads.
