FTTC22 - Chalked Firecrackers!

It's time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge #22 . Have we got a lovely challenge for you this week! It is the last Tuesday of the month, so it is time for another Guest Challenge Designer!! Today we welcome Linda Lucas (Lovely Linda on SCS), all the way from Australia! Welcome, Linda!!! Linda is challenging us to use our chalk! Now, there are so many techniques that you can do using chalk. Whether you want to color, sponge distress, create popping pastels, chalkboard technique, or choose another, the point is to dust of that chalk container and Chalk It!! We would love to see what you create!

The set I used for today's card is Flourishes Patriotism on Parade. I just love this patriotic stamp set! So very fun! For the background I used my chalks with the background burst technique from last month's Technique Junkies Newsletter to make the firecrackers stand out on the black paper. The image of the kids was stamped in craft black ink and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. I then sponged a bit of red and blue over the image panel with distress inks. and added the sentiment punched with SU's oval punches. The ribbon is riding hood red taffeta ribbon, and the star brads are also from SU.

I just LOVE this Patriotism on Parade set, and Flourishes has launched a "Designing for a Cause" campaign just for this set!! To read all the deets, you can head over to SCS here.

Also, be sure to check out the other Friends of Flourishes Blog team designers to see what they created for you this week.

Kitchen Sink Monday - Farewell Daises!

KSS-June-30th-09-ad

Happy Kitchen Sink Stamp Monday!! For today's card I wanted to do a sort of farewell tribute to Kitchen Sink's 3 step Daisies, which is being retired.

My large daisy was stamped in Only Orange, Pumpkin Pie, Tangerine Tango and Chocolate Chip. The smaller daises were stamped with Summer Sun, Crushed Curry and Close to Cocoa. Once I finished stamping the images, I cut them out and popped them up on the orange Label 1 faux felt panel, which is a technique I learned from the Technique Junkies Journal. The yellow background was dry embossed with one of my SU texturz plates, and then sponged slightly with pumpkin pie.

To finish off the card, I added the sentiment on some Kiwi Kiss ribbon, and a few silver flower brads.

Please head on over to see all the other creation the Crew members have created week for you!! You are gonna wanna check what Maria has in store for you this week on her blog! Starting today and each day after (until July 7th), Maria will be giving you sneak peeks of all the new sets to be released July 7th!

LSC226 - Journey

I made this card for SCS LSC 226...it was a kind of follow the list times three. You were given a menu of three lists, and you could choose one thing for your card from each list...type of image...colors...and type of embellishments. I chose an automobile for my image, a neutral color scheme, and natural fibers and hardware.

The image I used is form Innovative Stamp Creations Men of Wisdom sheet. I heat embossed the card with black craft and clear embossing powder. Nope, the background is not DP, it is also an image from this same set, which was also heat embossed with craft black and clear EP on kraft paper. All of the edges were distressed and sponged with black soot distress ink. To finish off the card, I added the natural hemp and Tim Holtz charm and metal corners.

Thanks so much for visiting today! Have a great weekend...be sure to come back on Sunday to check out the ISC blog sketch challenge!!

Some Exciting News & Our Daily Bread Designs - Sneak Peek!!

You may be wondering about my title...why I am talking about the Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) sneak peeks...well...I have some very exciting news!! I have been asked to join the ODBD design team!! How fun is that! I just love all of their inspiring Christian stamps, and I am so pleased to be part of such a wonderfully talented team!! Thank you so much Kelley for this fabulous invitation!

So, I promised you a sneak peek of the ODBD new release for July 1st, and here it is! For this card I used both the Amazing Grace stamp and the Grow in Grace set. I stamped the words to Amazing Grace on a piece of pink DPS, and then did the stain glass technique with some velum and the dogwood flowers embossed in black and then colored with copics. The bottom of the velum piece has been punched with SU's eyelet border punch (it is kind of hard to see in the pictures). I just LOVE this hymn, and these sets are just soooo beautiful!!

Okay, that is pretty much it for today's peek, but be sure to come back next week, July 1st for the ODBD blog hop!! Should be tons of fun!!!

Thanks so much for visiting! Have a great day!!

FTTC21 - Timeless Tuesday Sketch!

This week, Flourishes Timeless Tuesday #21 is hosted by Silke Ledlow, and she is challenging us to use a sketch, which can be seen here! Such a fun sketch, and I am such a sucker for any sketch with either a circle or an oval in it!!

I was in need of a card for a dear friend's birthday, so for my card today, I used Summer on the Patio set. The images were colored with copics, and then the edges of the panel was sponged. The DSP is from Basic Grey Wisteria, and I embellished with some champagne half pearls, a filigree brad and certainly celery twill ribbon. I was totally inspired to "tie" my ribbon simply after seeing this done many times on Denise's (peanutbee) blog...this is such a fun and simple way to tie a bow...I will be doing it again!! Thanks for the inspiration Denise!!

Be sure to check out the other Friends of Flourishes Blog team designers to see what they created for you this week.

Thanks so much for visiting today! Have a great day!

LSC225 & TLC 225 - International Flair with Faux Handmade Paper

I made this card for LSC225 - International Flair - where we were make a card with a different language on it, and TLC225 - with the faux handmade paper technique...LOVE this technique, and the image/sentiment is from Innovative Stamp Creation's Natures Silhouette II.

For my faux paper, I used a yellow, pink and burgundy acrylic paint. The silhouette images were stamped with bravo burgundy ink, as were the butterflies. I saw this ribbon treatment in the up coming SU! catalogue and just had to give it a try...very fun and different!!

Sorry for the short post today...in a bit of a hurry...busy day ahead. Thanks so much for visiting and have a great day!!

I made this card for SC233...such a fun sketch!! I thought it would be perfect to show off the new SU set Autumn Days.
The image is rock 'n rolled in crushed curry and soft suede. The DP is from Basic Grey Wisteria. The background is stamped with the wheat and pine cone images. The border is made with some twine thread, and the sentiment was stamped directly on the main image panel, and then covered with a Tim Holtz oval fragment.

I am so loving this new set...it just goes perfect with these new in colors too!!

FTTC20 - Kim Poloson Inspired Butterflies

It is time for Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge(FTTC20)! This week Betty Wright is our host. She is challenging us to get inspired from Kim Poloson's posters. Search through the many posters to find an inspiration piece. As with all inspiration pieces, there may be one or two things in the photo that inspires you whether it is an element, layout, or color scheme, or you may want to recreate the whole look. There are so many wonderful ones to choose from you will probably want to play several times. Make sure you include a link in your write up as to which one you chose and why. We would love to see what you create!!!

The poster I used as my inspiration is titled "Back to the Garden I". Loved the blues and browns and also the BUTTERFLIES!! So I pulled out my Butterfly Moments set and got to work! Now, I really loved everything about this poster, so I pretty much recreated it on my card! The DP is all from my favorite SU DSP, which I will miss dearly called Parisian Breeze.

The butterfly was stamped in walnut stain distress ink on confetti cream paper, and then colored with a few copics. All of the edges were then distressed/sponged with more walnut stain distress ink.

To finish off the card, I added a bit of velvet tan ribbon, some distress soft sky double stitched ribbon, some antique brads, and the sentiment is from Flourishes Flourished Words set.

Be sure to check out the other Friends of Flourishes Blog team designers to see what they created for you this week.

Kitchen Sink Monday - Red, White & Blue Wedding

Happy Monday, everyone!! I have made a kitchen sink card for you today!! One of my DH's employees is getting married on the 4th of July, so he wanted to me to make a card for her. After thinking a bit, I decided that a red, white and blue themed wedding card would be fun!! So I pulled out my 3 step Pansy set, and went to work!

The blue flowers were stamped with Pacific point twice, then with craft white twice, and the center was stamped with basic black. For the red flowers, I used rose red, ruby red, riding hood red, going gray, and basic black. The leaves are all stamped with kiwi kiss and old olive. Each of the flowers are cut out and popped up on dimensionals.

I finished off the card with the sentiment from the Words of Love set, some riding hood red taffeta ribbon, and deep red rhinestones.

So, I show DH the card, and he said...oh, that is really nice...but I probably should have told you that she LOVES lavender. UGH!!! LOL!! So, I may keep this card, and work on another for her...don't be surprised if you see a pretty purple wedding card here on my blog within the next few weeks. LOL!!

On a sad note, I am sorry to say that fellow crew member, Tammy Hershberger, has decided to leave the Kitchen. Your beautiful and inspirational creations will be missed, Tammy...best to you on all your future endeavors!! Please head on over to see what all the other Crew members have created week for you!!

LSC224 & MOJO90 - Nature's Discovery

I made this card for two different challenges today...LSC224 - where we were to follow the Water plus Sand list of using only blues, greens, and/or grays on our card along with any neutral colors. Also, we had to incorporate brads, ribbon and paper piercing as embellishments...we could use anything else also, but HAD to have those three elements. I also used the sketch from MOJO90. What a fun sketch! Love all the different shapes!

So, I really was not sure what images to use today, and then I remembered I had gotten this WONDERFUL Tim Holtz stamp set a couple of months ago called Nature's Discovery and have not put ink to it yet...I know...*gasp*!! So today was as good as any to play with these images!

For all the layers of paper, I used some alcohol inks (blue peri and lettuce)...for the back two pieces I used more lettuce then blue peri, and then for the panel with the cattails stamped on it, I used more blue peri and a lot less lettuce.

I then added some ribbon and the great Tim Holtz metal corners. I was all ready to take a picture of my card, and then realized I had not done two of the elements we were supposed to have for the LSC224...I had forgotten brads and paper piercing. So I added the pewter brads, and the paper piercing, and the card before you is now the finished product. Whew!! I think I did it! LOL

Thanks so much for visiting today! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!

WT222 & MMSC5 - Wings of Friendship!! MORE NEW SU!!

I made this card for WT222 to use crinkled flowers on your card. I also paired it with this week's Midnight Madness Sketch challenge #5. What a great sketch, and fun way to show of some DSP...I used my most favorite right now, Parisian Breeze!!

For my image today, I am using a NEW set from SU! Actually, it is a level two hostess set called Wings of Friendship....love this little flourished bird on the flower!!

For the crinkled flower, I used my SU scalloped circle punch along with a small scalloped circle nestability. The center of the flower are a couple of kiwi kiss corduroy buttons also from SU. This technique is just so fun and easy...you can find a simple tutorial for these flowers over on SCS here.

To finish off the card I layered a bit of kiwi kiss and chocolate chip twill ribbon, and added the double bow!

Thanks so much for stopping in today! Hope you have a great day!!

SC232 - I'm Here For You & NEW IN COLORS!!! :)

I made this card for SC232...wow!! It has been way to long since I have done a challenge on SCS...this was such a great sketch I just HAD to create a card with it!

The image I chose to use today is from the newly released Sketch of Roses sheet from Innovative Stamp Creations. I stamped my rose in palette black ink and colored with a few copics. The I distressed and sponged the edges in crushed curry and soft suede (lovin' these two new colors from SU!!)

For my middle strip of paper I double bugged a piece of crushed curry card stock. What a fun and easy technique this is...I saw it in a Technique Junkies newsletter, and just had to give it a try! So simple and easy, but adds so much dimension to your card!!

I finished off my card by stamping the sentiment in the corner in soft suede, and then added a touch of kiwi kiss satin ribbon, and a making memories brad.
Just a reminder!! There is also a discount available for the first week of Innovative Stamp Creation's June Stamp Line Release! Starting June 8th through the 15th receive 10% off by using coupon code 61509

Also, Innovative Stamp Creations is holding a charity fundraiser...here are all the details for that! FTTC19 - Kick Back and Relax!!

Today's Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge #19 is hosted by Cindy Haffner. Cindy is challenging us to us designer paper! There is a lot that you can do with designer papers...you can stamp on them, use border punches, color them, paper piece, die cut shapes, cut out images to use as a focal point, or just to enhance the look of your card. Whichever option you choose to do, we would love to see what you create.
I LOVE designer paper, and one of my most favorite technique to us DP with is paper piecing! What better Flourishes new image to paper piece then one from the A Man's View set! I started by stamping my image on a white piece of paper. I then took a number of different DSPs from one of SU's 6" x 6" paper packages and pieced the image together. The chair, lamp shade, carpet, his shirt and pants are all paper pieced. The remainder of the image was colored with Copics (except for the "walls". which were sponged with baja breeze ink).

The sketch I used for my card is this week's challenge over on the Our Creative Corner Challenge blog. I really liked this sketch, and decided it would look great flipped on it's side with this image! This sketch also gave me another chance to display even more DSP!

Be sure to check out the other Friends of Flourishes Blog team designers to see what they created for you this week.

Thanks so much for visiting today! Have a great day!

Kitchen Sink Monday & Project of the Month for June - Flip Book Tutorial

About a month ago, I posted a flip book that I made for my Mother and Mother-in-law for Mother's day. Many people asked how I made the book. There is a wonderful printable tutorial over on Chiaki Haverstick's blog, but I thought I would put together a quick picture tutorial here of the most current one that I have made.

First, you need two sheets of one color of 12" x 12" card stock along with 1 sheet of coordinating color 12" x 12" card stock.

Out of the first color card stock cut one 6" x 12" piece of paper and three 5 3/4" x 12" pieces of paper. Out of the second color card stock, cut four 5 1/2" square pieces of paper.

Take the 6" x 12" piece of paper and score it at 2 3/4" and 3" from each end.

Next you will want to score each of the three 5 3/4" x 12" pieces at 3" and 9" (or 3" from each side).

Once you have scored all three smaller pieces, take one, and adhere sticky strip to each of the flaps. This will become the middle of the three pieces.

Next attach the other two pieces of 5 3/4" x 12" scored piece of card stock end to end.

Flip the now one large piece of card stock over, and add some more sticky strip to the center, and adhere the larger 6" x 12" piece of card stock.

You are almost finished! :) Next take two of the 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" pieces of card stock, add some sticky strip to both pieces and adhere to one of the flaps of the 6" x 12" piece of card stock. Repeat for the other side.

Your book is now put together!! Now all you have to do is stamp and embellish as you wish!

Here is the one that I just put together this weekend again. Last month, my 5 year old DD had her dance recital. The studio she goes to took pictures of each of the dancers...I LOVE the way all of hers turned out! I thought this would be a perfect way of displaying them...a great keepsake for her!

For the cover, I used Kitchen Sink's 3 step Rose set. I stamped both the smaller and larger rose all around the base piece of paper in pink pirouette, pretty in pink, regal rose, and rose red. I used the Label 1 nestability, and stamped the words with Kitchen Sink's Mix it Up - Monogram and Alphabet. I sponged the edges with both pink pirouette and rose red, and then added the pink pirouette ribbon to tie the flip book closed.

Here is a picture of the first flip. Again I used Kitchen Sink's Mix it Up - Monogram and Alphabet set for the words, sponged the edges, and stamped the single roses with regal rose, rose red, ruby red, riding hood red...and the stem and leaves with kiwi kiss and old olive. I then cut them out and popped them up with dimensionals next to the nestabilities.

This is a photo of how the whole flip book looks open. You can use each of the little flaps to journal, which I have done here, you just can't see it (it is on the other side of the flaps shown in this picture). Each of the photos were matted with a large scalloped nestiability in pink pirouette, along with some riding hood red card stock. All of the DSP used on this book came from either SU's bella rose package or the parisian summer package.
I hope you enjoyed the quick tutorial. Please go check out what the other Crew members have created week!!

Also, don't forget about the on going 10% off your purchase at the Kitchen Sink Stamps Store. All you have to do is use the promotion code of CONNIE10KSS. How fun it that! Gotta love a discount!! Hope you have a great day!!

Thanks sooo much for visiting today! Have a great day!

ISC Release Day - Memories of Patriotism Mini Book!

Yep, today is the day...Innovative Stamp Creations is releasing three new sets TODAY!!

I have a mini book to share with you that I made with the Men of Patriotism sheet. For my cover, I used a 4" x 4" Zutter chipboard wood cover. I started with some very vanilla card stock and stamped the declaration of independence image with palette black ink and distress with a direct to paper technique with old paper distress ink.

For my main image panel, I stamped the image twice. Colored the flag, sponged the sky and added the sentiment on one of the images, and for the other did the direct to paper technique as I did with the base. I then punched a circle out over the flag image, placed a ranger circle memory capsule through the circle, and adhered the colored image to the back of the distressed image to create a sort of spotlight technique. I then distress all the edges with my Tim Holtz distressing tool. To finish off the outside of the book, I bound it with my bind-it-all and added a bit of twill tape that was distress with some more old paper ink.

I also did a quick inner page by stamping the eagle image from this set, and added the sentiment. The remainder of my pages are left blank. I figured this would be a nice gift to give to someone about to serve over seas, and the blank pages could be used to have family and friend write messages to him or her.

Well if you like what I have done here, and would like to create one of your own, everything I have used here is available at Innovative Stamp Creations. In fact, the owner, Betsy, is offering a wonderful "Memories of Patriotism Kit" that includes a number of things I just used on my mini book! Here are all the deets:

Round Hibiscus

I have another card for you today from Innovative Stamp Creation's Hibiscus sheet, which will be released tomorrow, June 8th!

I stamped my flower with palette black ink, and colored it with some copic markers. I then stamped some of the dew drop images from the sheet on my flower with craft pumpkin pie ink, embossed it with clear EP, and then added some crystal effects for an even more raised feel and look. I cut the image out with my creative memories circle cutter, and sponged and distress the edges with spiced marmalade distress ink.

To finish off the card I added the sentiment and some fun striped ribbon along the left side.

Thanks so much for visiting today! Have a wonderful Sunday!

For my card, I stamped the rose with palette black in and colored it with copics. I then cut it out and popped it up on my card with dimensionals. The white base of my card is sponged with fired brick distress ink. I then added some Teresa Collins DP on the bottom of the card with my sentiment. To embellish the card I added some fire square brads, Riding Hood Red Ribbon, and some Karen Foster decorative corner brads.

Framed Hibiscus - Another ISC Sneak Peek!

I promised you yesterday for some more Innovative Stamp Creations sneak peeks, and I am delivering!! Today's card uses the new Hibiscus sheet, which will be available on June 8th!!! Isn't this flower sooo pretty!

The sketch for this card is from MMSC#4...such a fun sketch! I really loved the frame portion of this sketch, so I broke out some Tim Holtz grungeboard, and covered it with scattered straw distress paint, and distressed it even more with some scattered straw and peeled paint distress inks. The image was stamped in Palette Black in, colored with copics and distress again with scattered straw and peeled paint distress ink.

The demask background was created with the Heidi Swapp demask mini mask. To get the opposite portion of the masked inked with the yellow color, I placed the mask on some glossy white paper in different areas and sponged some ranger watermark ink around the mask. Once it was completely dry (and yes...it too a long time to dry...I even hit it a few times with my heat gun...but did not use it too much because I did not want to scorch the glossy paper) I sponged scatter straw and peeled paint distress ink all over the paper. The dried watermark ink created a resist to the ink! Very fun!! A wonderful resist technique, only without using clear embossing powder!

To finish off the card, I added the sentiment with my oval SU punches, some so saffron ribbon, and circle metal family and friends sayings.

Come on back tomorrow for even more sneak peeks!! Thanks so much for visiting!

Memories Of Patriotism - ISC June Sneak Peek!!

Yep! It is sneak peek time for Innovative Stamp Creations!!! The new release will be coming out on Monday, June 8th. So come on over the next few days...I will be sneak peeking all three of the new stamp sheets for this month!

The first peek I have for you today is from the new sheet called "Memories Of Patriotism". LOVE this sheet!! Just in time for some patriotic cards for the 4th of July!! My card for you today was totally inspired by Sharon Johnson...she makes these WONDERFUL tag cards, and has a tutorial for this card that can be found on her blog here! Really a simple card, but love how you can showcase so many images and/or great DPs on it!!

For my tag card, I used this great DP from Karen Fosters, Stars & Stripes Collage! Love the look of this paper! The images are stamped in palette black ink directly on the DSP. I also distressed all of the red card stock with some tea dyed distress ink. The red satin ribbon (which was also distress a bit with tea dyed ink) is from Micheal's, and the navy organdy ribbon is some old SU ribbon I still had in my stash! For the sentiment tags, I did the faux metal technique with ranger's watermark pad and silver EP.

Thanks so much for visiting today...don't forget to visit the next few days for more fun peeks!! :)

FTTC18 - Framed Nasturtiums and some Exciting News!!

I have some fun and exciting news today! The Ladies of Flourishes and the Friends of the Flourishes Blog Team has asked me to be a guest designer for the whole month of June! How exciting it that! I will be joining them for the next 5 Flourishes Timeless Tuesday challenges!! Thanks so much for asking me to join you ladies!!!

Today's Flourishes Timeless Tuesday Challenge #18 (FTTC18) is hosted by Kimberly Crawford! Her challenge is to use frames on our cards!! I colored one of the smaller images from the Nasturtiums set with a few copics. I then frmaed the image with a few Label 4 nestabilities. The DSP I used for my frames is from SU's Parisian Summer package. To add just a bit more to the frame, I stamped and colored the smallest flower vine image on the top and bottom.

Next, I used some Kiwi Kiss DSP from the Bella Rose package, and some Saffron Twill behind the image. To finish off the card, I stamped the sentiment in the corner, and added some half pearls.

Be sure to check out the other Friends of Flourishes Blog team designers to see what they created for you this week.

Thanks so much for visting! Have a great day!!

KSCC14 - Going Green with an Old Book

Yep, the first Monday of the month means another wonderful Kitchen Sink Crew Challenge. This week's Challenge is hosted by Lynn McAuley! She want us to Go Green by Reducing, Reusing, or Recycling. Take some previously used non-stamping item that is headed for the trash can and turn it into a component in your Kitchen Sink project either as a layer or embellishment of some sort! Trash to Treasure so to speak! You can view all of the details on this challenge, over on the Kitchen Sink Stamps Blog!

Such a fun challenge Lynn!! I was completely inspired by a card on KAT's blog. Love the look of the old book with emboss resist. KAT used acrylic paint for her emboss resist, and to tell you the truth...I could not get it to work for me. So my resist is with Walnut stain ranger distress ink.

I started by heat embossing my flourish image which is from KSS Backgrounds and Borders set with versamark and clear embossing powder, directly on top of a page from an old book. I then took my Walnut Stain Distress ink pad and rubbed it directly over the old page until it was fully covered. I then took a piece of paper towel and rubbed the ink off my embossed flourish. I then tore the edges of my page to give it an even more distressed look. It is layered on a piece of Parisian Breeze DSP, and Baja Breeze card stock, which have both been distressed and sponged with some frayed burlap distress ink.

The butterfly, which is from KSS 3 step Butterfly, is stamped with soft sky, baja breeze, and not quite navy. I then cut it out and popped it up just above the flourish with a dimensional. The sentiment is from the KSS Whole Family set. I stamped it in Walnut Stain Distress ink on another piece of the old page, and distressed it even more with a bit of frayed burlap distress ink. To finish off the card, I added a few antique brass brads in each of the corners.

I just love using different things in my card, that you may not normally use...feels good to do a bit of recycling too!! Now go check out what the other Crew members have conjured up with week!!
