Card set with A2 Card Box Tutorial PLUS Ceramic Painted Lamp Bonus!

I was asked to donate a couple of card sets for a local banquet/silent auction this weekend, for wildlife conservation, and this is what I came up with.

I sort of cased myself on this image...I have made a card very similar with the moonlight in the background with this image. When I showed this card to the ladies in charge of donations, they loved it and wanted something like it. I tried to go a little simpler since I was making two sets of 10 cards!

I heat embossed the image with black craft ink and clear EP. I then sponged the background with baja breeze and not quite navy. To finish off the card, I decided to distress it a bit by tearing a couple of edges, added the weathered background, and a bit of black twill ribbon.

I then created a little A2 acetate card box for the set. I have made this little box before, but do not think I have ever posted a tutorial for it. All I have to say about this box is that it is EASY!!! For the base, take an 8 1/2" x 10" piece of card stock for the base, and the same dimensions for the acetate top. For the base...score 2" in from all four sides. For the top...score 1 15/16" in from all sides. Cut one side of the tabs in all four corners (as seen in the picture), and then assemble! How easy is that!!

The projects for this banquet, however, did not stop here. They purchased this beautiful ceramic lamp for a steal, but wanted me to add some sort of wildlife image to it. After much research and thinking, this is what I came up with.

I stamped the tree image from SU's retired Pines set, and the same deer image from natures silhouette on some clear contact paper with black stazon ink. I then cut the images out to create a mask. This was the easy part of this project! I had to figure out what paint would be the best to use that would stick to an already glazed ceramic piece of pottery! Off to trusty Michael's!

The friendly people at Michael's recommended an air-dry PermEnamel paint. There are three steps/products for this process, and yes...you DO need to get them all (you, like I, may think that the surface conditioner is not necessary, but let me tell you it IS!! LOL!! If you don't use it, the paint with NOT stick!)

So, to get my scene on the lamp, I placed the mask on the lamp. I then started with the Surface Conditioning solution. I let it dry, and then sponged the Black Perm Enamel paint over that. I IMMEDIATLY took the mask off of the lamp (I did not do this on my first practice round on a small pot. I let it dry, and then took the mask off, but unfortunately, the whole image came off with it...so you need to take the mask off when the paint is still wet!) Once the paint was dry, I brushed the clear satin glaze (step 3), over the painted portion with a small brush.

I can not believe it actually worked!! I was so afraid I was going to ruin this lamp...even though they got it at a screaming deal, I still would have felt awful!!

SC233 - Autumn Days

I made this card for SC233...such a fun sketch!! I thought it would be perfect to show off the new SU set Autumn Days.

The image is rock 'n rolled in crushed curry and soft suede. The DP is from Basic Grey Wisteria. The background is stamped with the wheat and pine cone images. The border is made with some twine thread, and the sentiment was stamped directly on the main image panel, and then covered with a Tim Holtz oval fragment.

I am so loving this new set...it just goes perfect with these new in colors too!!

WT222 & MMSC5 - Wings of Friendship!! MORE NEW SU!!

I made this card for WT222 to use crinkled flowers on your card. I also paired it with this week's Midnight Madness Sketch challenge #5. What a great sketch, and fun way to show of some DSP...I used my most favorite right now, Parisian Breeze!!

For my image today, I am using a NEW set from SU! Actually, it is a level two hostess set called Wings of Friendship....love this little flourished bird on the flower!!

For the crinkled flower, I used my SU scalloped circle punch along with a small scalloped circle nestability. The center of the flower are a couple of kiwi kiss corduroy buttons also from SU. This technique is just so fun and easy...you can find a simple tutorial for these flowers over on SCS here.

To finish off the card I layered a bit of kiwi kiss and chocolate chip twill ribbon, and added the double bow!

LSC222 - Pattern Paper Everywhere!!

I made this card for LSC222 - where we were only allowed to use card stock for the base, all other paper had to be patterned paper. Also we were only allowed to use ink, no other coloring tools.

That is a tough one but I really needed a baby card for a shower I am going to on Sunday, so I pulled out my old SU! A New Little Someone set, and paper pieced my bunny!! All of the DSP I used is also from SU! - Candy Lane, Parisian Summer, and Summer Picnic.

To finish off the card, I added a bit of white satin ribbon across the bottom, three soft subtle brads, and a tiny library clip to hold the sentiment on.

SC225, CTD39 & StampinB's - Happily Ever After!

This card is a triple threat as far as challenges go! The sketch is from this weeks SC225 at SCS, the color combo is from this week's Color Throwdown #39 - Basic Black, Barely Banana, Real Red, and also StampinB's second challenge which was to use die cuts.

When I saw today's Color Throwdown challenge, I knew I wanted to use this Ever After set from SU! I got this set when it first came out and have yet to used it! I really thought that is heart image went well with some old real red DSP from SU also, so that is where my card got it's start!

For this week's StampinB challenge, we were to use die cuts...I don't have many except for my nestabilities...so out I pulled label #1...I thought the lines on these nesties would work nicely with this image!

To finish off this card, I added the three square SU fire brads, some black satin ribbon, and put the sentiment on a small round tag dangling from my knot.

Inspired Soot Stamping

I just LOVE this set from the current SU mini called Sense of Time! As soon as I got this set, I knew I wanted to try this clock image with the soot stamping technique. You can check out the tutorial for soot stamping over on SCS. However, I will try and explain quickly how to do it.

Basically, what you need is a piece of glossy paper. Light a candle and then hold the piece of paper, glossy side down, over the open flame so that you get the soot from the flame on the card stock (be very careful not to get too close and catch your paper on fire..yes, I am speaking from experience...LOL!!) Once you have the soot all over your paper, take the image you want to stamp (in this case it is the clock image) and press it into the soot covered card stock...be very careful not to touch the soot with anything else...it will come off very easily! Once you have stamped your image, you want to spray your image with an acrylic clear coat to set the image, and you are done!

For my layout, I decided to use a card sketch from Mojo Monday - Mojo77 - from last month...I thought it would be perfect with this round clock image. The DSP is from SU. I distressed all of the edges on the card, and to finish it off I added a bit of black twill.

SC224 & CTD38 - Faux Bleached Nature

Okay, I decided to try the color throw down challenge for the first time today, and also combined it with SC224 from SCS. Today's throw down challenge was ruby red, baja breeze and going gray...very fun!!

I got this inspired by nature set from SU's convention last year and really have only used it a few times, so I decided that today was the day to pull it out again. I also thought this image would be a perfect to use with one of my favorite techniques...faux bleaching. There is a great tutorial for this over on SCS, but I decided to make a little tutorial for this card today using SU reinkers instead of the Adirondack Color Wash used in that tutorial (mainly because I don't have any of those...yet, LOL!!).

First emboss your image with clear embossing powder. I had to laugh at my self when I stamped my images with my versamark...they came out a yucky tan color...looks like it is time for me to get a new one! However, that yucky color made it easier for me to take a picture for you to actually be able to see the versamark. hehehe!

Once the image is heat embossed, mix a few reinker colors with a little bit of water in a small misting bottle...the less water you use the more vibrant the color will be. Then spray the reinker/water mixture directly over your clear embossed images (blotting off any excess ink if needed).

When your image is slightly dry, sandwich it in between two pieces of copy paper and iron with your craft iron. You can see from this picture, that after a bit, the clear EP is transferred onto the top piece of copy paper.

Now you have completed the technique and are ready to put it on your card. Pretty simple, just lots of steps! :)

To finish off my card, I stamped the grass images on the baja breeze base, sponged the edges, and then layered some Urban garden DSP and going gray card stock that was both punched with the SU eyelet border punch. Next, I punched two slits on either side of my image, and added some riding hood red taffeta ribbon. Finally, I added the sentiment on the corner with my small, large and scalloped oval punches.

TLC214 & SSnotime80- Never Ending Seasons!

Okay, this week's Technique Lover's challenge is just waaaaay cool. The technique for today is called the neverending card, and you can find a video tutorial over on Dawn Griffith's Blog! It looks difficult, but believe me when I say it is just so simple, and Dawn's tutorial is just fabulous!! Also, I combined this card with this week's SSnotime80, where we were to mix our patterns by using EITHER stripes or dots and mix them with any other print or pattern. I did both on this card! LOL!!

The never ending card gives you four different flips to showcase images, so I thought it would be perfect to show the Branch Out image with the four different season. So we will begin with Spring. Here I added a bit of pink to the tree for blossoms and some blue bayou butterflies. The DSP is from SU's Parisian Breeze.

The next flip is for Summer. Here we have just the old olive leaves along with the tire swing. Again I used a bit of the Parisian Breeze DSP.

This flip showcases the branch out images for Fall. Here I stamped the leaves in more mustard, ruby red and pumpkin pie. I then added the bird house stamped in ruby red. As you can see, this flip uses the same side panels as the Summer flip, so I wanted to make sure and use a DSP that would match both seasons.

The final flip represents winter. Here I left the leaves off, and stamped the snowflakes all over with baja breeze, and added the black boots at the bottom of the tree. Again, I have showcased some more patterns from the Parisian Breeze DSP package.

Then once you make the final flip, you card starts back over at the first panel...so my card starts back over at Spring!! See what I mean...totally amazing! I will definitely be doing this type of card again!!

Great Friends!

This card is for IC172 on SCS...today's inspiration were some beautiful dresses from Little Daisy Designs...they are all adorable, you should go and check them out!

For my card I decided to use the Great Friends set from SU's spring mini. I stamped the butterfly on white with so saffron. I then layered it on a SU butterfly die cut. For the body, I used a photo turn mount and for the head I added a small rhinestone brad. I then stamped the leaf image in so saffron for the background. Added a bit of DSP, ribbon, and the sentiment (which was stamped once on baja breeze, and then again on so saffron, and then layered).

FS103 - A GOuLD Star Stamper!!

I made this card for FS103 - Vicky Gould is this week's FS and boy oh boy does she have a fantastic gallery...I think I was lost in it for over an hour today while finding a card to CASE. I finally decided on this bold butterfly card.
I chose this butterfly card because I really wanted to use my new Simple Friendship stamp set from SU!! Love this butterfly sooooo much, and thought this layout Vicky did would be perfect for it, and to show off some of the new Candy Lane DSP from SU also!

I started off by stamping the butterfly image with riding hood red on very vanilla paper and then cut it out. I stamped the En Francais background stamp on my close to cocoa base. I then cut three 1 1/4" strips of different Candy Land DSP, and distressed the edges. I then stamped the sentiment on more DSP, layered and distressed the edges.

To embellish I added some pale pink crimped ribbon with a large flower brad (I did not have a charm like Vicky did), and as with Vicky's card, I added three silver brads at the bottom of the card.

It was so very much fun CASEing Vicky today! Vicky you are one fabulous papercrafter!!

CC201 - Daddy's Birthday

I made this for CC201 - Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze and Kraft. This combo came a the perfect time for me...my dad's b-day is tomorrow and I needed to make him a card. I also knew that I wanted to use this Nature Silhouette set from SU!

I started out stamping the Buck and tree/grass image in Craft black and then stamped a little more grass to make the scene a tad longer. Then, I embossed with clear embossing powder. Next, I punched a circle out and layered it over my image to create the moon. I then brayered Baja breeze over the entire image, and sponge some Not Quite Navy and Black Soot distress ink in the darker areas, and removed the punched circle.

For the background, I used SU's weathered background stamp and sponged more black soot distress ink and Not Quite Navy over the edges. I distressed all of the edges of the main panel with a Tim Holtz distressing tool.

I finished off the card with some black twill ribbon and some Tim Holtz brad and washers. I sure hope he likes this card...I have a feeling he will...LOL!!

LSC202 - Don't Go Breakin' My Heart! :)

I made this card for LSC202 which was titled Don't break my heart, but ever since I read it I have had the song Don't go Breakin' my Heart in my head...it is driving me crazy!!!

Anyway, The challenge was that we were to use any colors plus red, any stamps...a bonus if you used hearts...and pretty much any embellishment you added needed to be red or have hearts.

So I pulled out SU's Something New to Love set...love these hearts!! I stamped them with Riding Hood Red on Pink Pirouette paper, and cut them out. I then took a square piece of pink pirouette and close to cocoa, tore the edges, and layered them behind the hearts.

As you can see, pretty much most of the card is distressed with the direct to paper technique. I also tore the bottom portion of the base, turned it up and stitched it with some twine thread. I then finished the card off with some striped ribbon tied at the end with some more twine thread.

After finishing this card, I decided that it could be masculine enough to maybe even give it to my DH...what do you think?

CC200 - Hmmm this was a toughie for me!!

I made this card for CC200 - Pumpkin Pie, Handsome Hunter and Brilliant Blue?? Talk about out side of my comfort zone!! I have had this rustic rooster set for over a week now and just could not wait to put some ink to it. I was not sure it would work with this color combo, but this is what I came up with.

I do not have much in the line of brilliant blue, so I decided to create my own DP with some alcohol inks and glossy card stock. The alcohol inks I chose were denim, rust and oregano. I then thought that the glossy part of the card stock was not really the look I was going for on this card, so I used a Tim Holtz sanding grip with sand paper to rough it up a bit, and then I sponged a little bit of brilliant blue ink over that to make it a tad brighter and truer to brilliant blue.

The top portion of the background, as with the rooster, were stamped in pumpkin pie and then sponged with more pumpkin pie. Also, where there is an edge on this card, it is distressed with one of Tim Holtz's distressing tools.

I used the small round image from this stamp set to embellish with a SU build-a-brad. You can not see it very well in the full picture of the card, so I decided to take a closer picture of just the brad. I have never really used a build-a-brad before (except at the 2007 SU convention). They are really a lot of fun!!

Mini Tote Bag Tutorial!

I made these fun totes for my nieces, I thought they would be perfect to tuck a gift card in. 3x3" note cards would also fit in these, which would make a fun gift too!! I got the idea from my friend Kerri, who sent me one along with the directions on how to make them. The direction say they were from Donna Matoi...so Donna if you have a blog, let me know and I will link you!!!

I used the new raspberry tart DSP that will be available from SU in January...very fun and bright paper, perfect for my nieces!! I have put together a picture tutorial on how to make them if you would like to give it a try too!

First, score a 12"x12" double sided piece of DSP at 1", 5 1/4", 6", 6 3/4" and 11". Then turn the paper and score at 3 1/2" and 8 1/2".

Next, fold and glue down the scored 1" flap on both sides.

Then, fold at the 6" score mark and punch 2 - 3/16" holes at 4 1/2" and 7 1/2".

Open the fold and set the 4 jumbo eyelets.




Fold at the 3 1/2" and 8 1/2" scored lines.



Then fold at the remaining scored lines, making valley and mountains.

Punch a 1/8" hole in the center of the tote, and then set a small eyelet to keep it together (I also placed a brad within they eyelet to make it look like a button of snap.

Add ribbon for handles and embellish however you choose!

These are just way too easy and fun to make! I really hope my nieces like them...they should since they are 11 and 9 and LOVE purses!!

Gifts for DD's Friends!

Well, no stamping today, but I did get a chance to take a picture of what I have been working on this past weekend and yesterday evening. Okay...I just have to say it...how cute are these tiny mugs!!!! I got them for a $1 each at Michaels the other day and just knew they would be perfect of DD's classmates this year for their Christmas party.

I dressed them up just a little more with some decorated York peppermint patties. For the patties, I punched two scalloped circles out of different holiday DSP's, and then layered these adorable images from SU's Deer Friends set, which were inked with markers. I used some craft sticks I got in the baking isle at Michaels and stuck them into the patties and then into a small Styrofoam ball in the middle of the mug. I finished it off with some shredded red paper to cover the Styrofoam, and to hold the ball into place.

I really like the way they turned out, and hope that DD classmates like them!! :)

TLC199 Tag Punch Snowflake

I actually made this card for a craft for the ladies luncheon at my Church about a week ago, and when I woke up this morning the challenge was to make a tag punch star/snowflake, so I thought this would be the perfect time to post this card to my blog!

You can find a tutorial on how to make these wonderful stars on SCS here. For my card, I used brushed silver card stock from SU or the star frame, and plain velum for the center. I then punched a snow burst snowflake for the center of my star, added a crystal brad from my SU pretties kit, and added some drops of stickles on the edges of the snow burst punch.

For the panel behind the star, I layered a divine swirls embossed whisper white panel on top of some more brushed silver paper (which I totally LOVE this silver paper from SU, by the way!).

I finished it off with the sentiment which came from SU's Cardinal Christmas set, punched out with the large oval and then layered over a designer label punched out in Baja breeze.

If you have never made one of these before, I recommend that you try...they look difficult to do, but really they are quite easy...just ask the ladies at my church, who had doubts to begin with, but loved the outcome when they were all done! LOL!!

LSC198 - Going Green!

I made this gift card holder for LSC198, which was titled "going green". We were to reuse/recycle something on our card/project for today.

I got this chocolate ribbon from a box of chocolate dipped peppermint sticks I bought the other day from Williams Sonoma. MMMMM...anyway, I when I was standing in the store, I looked at the box and the ribbon and thought...oh I could totally use this ribbon for a card! LOL!! So here it is.

Anyway, I kept it simple today...which is fitting for a limited supply challenge... it is gonna be a busy day. These gift card holders are so very simple to make. Take a 4 1/4" x 11" piece of paper. Score it in 3" on either side, and then again in the middle at 5 1/2". Fold it like a "w" and then punch the center with a word window punch and circle punch, and that is where you put the gift card. Embellish as you wish...see what I mean...totally simple!

SC206 - Friend to Friend - Love This New Heart Punch!!

I made this card for SC206 on SCS today...a very fun sketch, and just perfect for the three heart image in the new SU set Love You Much, available in the new spring/summer catty come out in January!

The DSP I used for this card is the Candy Lane DSP which will also be available in January...I just love these colors, close to cocoa, riding hood red and pink pirouette!

For the heart images I stamped it in riding hood red on pink pirouette and then punched the hearts out with the new heart to heart punch...yep, you guessed it...also available in January! :)

I then finished of the card with some crimped pale pink ribbon.

It really is hard to believe that I have stamped a couple of valentine cards already!! It is kinda hard to think valentines with Christmas just around the corner!!

TLC198 - Vellum Wine Glass Votive Holder

Wow, what a fun technique for today's TLC198 on SCS!! We were to make a Vellum Votive holder out of vellum card stock and a wine glass.

To make one of these you can go here and print out the easy pesy template, and then decorate it however you would like!!

I do not have any vellum card stock on hand, so I embossed my image in black on some copy paper, and then layered it with some vellum to give it a softer feel! After I had finished I realized that with the way I did it, you really would not have to emboss it, you could just stamp directly on the copy paper and then cover with the vellum. I would think, though, that if you had vellum card stock and you wanted to do something similar as I did, you could just emboss the images directly onto the card stock.

I really does look neat all lit up, but my camera could not capture it very well...I just got a new digital camera for my birthday a few weeks ago, and I have not had much chance to play with it so I am not even sure how to turn the flash off! LOL!!

Anyway...i really think these are fanatic! They would make a wonderful gift for any time of the year!!

SC205 - New SU!!! Love You Much set! Also, Final day for a chance for some Blog Candy!!

I made this for SC205. What a fun sketch! Just perfect to show off some of this new Candy Lane DSP that will be available in the Spring/Summer SU catty! As well as this new set Love You Much! I just love playing with new stuff!! So very exciting!!

This card is pretty much self explanitory...I kept it pretty simple this morning. The image was colored with markers and I stamped it on both vanilla and pink pirouette. I then punched the center of the image with the 1 1/4" circle punch and then the pink outer edge was punched with the scallop punch. The center portion of the stamp is popped up on a dimensional on the scalloped layer. I then layered it with a few more circles. The ribbon is also layered...the bottom is some striped Riding Hood Red ribbon and the top is some very vanilla taffeta ribbon.
